May 17th was a long day full of drinking lots of Irish beer and whiskey. Before I get to that though, I need to mention my epiphiany of the day. The one thing I thought I could not live without broke… my hair straightener I blew it out because it was way too powerful for the plugs overseas, even with the converters. I was not too happy, but my straightener did have a good 5 year run so I was kind of due for a new one. I eventually decided against buying a new one and did perfectly fine without one during my two weeks abroad. Sometimes things that might seem like the end of the world actually work out for the better.. I saved so much time by not having to do my hair, and now I have an excuse to buy a new straightener!
Anyway, back to my trip. We started out the day with a tour at Guinness. The tour was self-guided and very museum-like. It took you through the whole process of making the beer and had lots of visuals and stats along the way. At the end of the tour I got to pour my very own pint of Guinness and I even got an official certificate for pouring the perfect pint! After finishing my pint of Guinness we headed up to the top floor to check out the Gravity Bar, which has a 360 degree view of the whole city.
After stopping for lunch at a local Irish pub, we headed to our next tour to continue the drinking at The Old Jamison Distillery! Before the tour even began I already wanted the awesome chandelier that was hanging from the ceiling.
The Jamison tour finished up with some delicious, freshly-made drinks. Next we walked around a bit and stopped for dinner at Bewley’s Cafe on Grafton Street. I had a delicious margarita pizza, and if there was time I would have loved to try one of the amazing looking desserts they sold.
After dinner we headed straight to The Duke to begin the Literary Pub Crawl where the drinking continued yet again. There were two actors that role played stories written by famous writers such as Oscar Wilde and James Joyce. We went to four different pubs where the authors used to write or just spend time at. We ended the pub crawl at a pub called Davy Byrnes. Before we went inside, one of the actors asked quiz questions about things he talked about during the night. I was the winner and got a free shirt!
After a fun-filled day of immersion in Irish culture, we decided to head back to the hotel and rest up for the next day ahead of us.
